JazzGroove presents The Doig Collective 29th July

This is an ensemble I always love playing with and this time it has a twist – we all had to bring our own tune! Guaranteed varied program of music for the small big ensemble!

Here’s what Jazzgroove has to say on the matter….

“A welcome return for one of our scene’s favourite larger ensembles. With each member lending their pen to this sizeable beast for the first time, a string of radio-friendly hits will undoubtedly emerge, that showcase the striking variety of influences and approaches that this Collective of local heroes possess. The Doig-ocracy has been broken.”

Songs that Made Me Goes on Tour – Katie Noonan, Abby Dobson, Angie Hart and Martha Marlow

Early in october I had the great privilege of playing for “Songs that Made Me” a project put together and featuring the amazing Katie Noonan in collaboration in Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride), Thelma Plum and Martha Marlow.

Now this very beautiful show is going on tour! Unfortunately the very talented Ms Thelma Plum is unable to join this time around but replacing her is the fabulous Angie Hart of Frente fame.

Here’s a little info on the tour taken from the website🙂

A series of unique live shows featuring Katie Noonan,
Abby Dobson, Angie Hart and Martha Marlow

Songs That Made Me unites four of Australia’s finest female singer/songwriters, Katie
Noonan, Abby Dobson, Angie Hart and Martha Marlow, to share stories of their influences,
artistic journeys and the landmark songs that have sound-tracked their lives. Following a sell out preview season at Sydney venue Camelot last month, interest and demand has been so great that the girls could no longer resist the ‘lure of the road’!

Drawing from a list of artists ranging from Carole King, Jeff Buckley and Joni Mitchell to Fiona Apple, Nancy Sinatra, Tiddas and Kylie Minogue, these artists put a truly unique spin on some of the songs that have shaped their lives. The four singers share the stage for the entire show and collaborate naturally as they discuss and perform the songs, in a relaxed, intimate and spontaneous way.

Katie Noonan explains: “There is nothing I love more than sitting around with my girlfriends, talking and sharing stories. But as a musician, I find we don’t get to share the stage with other artists very often – especially female artists. I thought this would be a wonderful and unique opportunity to share the stage through story and song and hang out with cool chicks at the same time! I am very excited to share the space with these gorgeous women whom I admire and respect, and think it will be a very special night for the audience and us!”.

“I know it will be a pure delight to be sitting on stage among all these fabulously talented women, listening to their stories about their influences and musical love affairs and to sit with them in the round while they perform these songs; to behold their voices,” said Abby Dobson. “Then we will play a bunch of songs together; the songs that have made us thus far…. undoubtedly there will be four part harmonies we shall weave as well, which is just about the most fun a girl can have with her clothes on!”

Angie Hart said today, “I’m incredibly excited to be asked to join these wonderful women on stage. To collaborate with these wildly talented musicians, and to share in their stories was too good an opportunity to refuse.”

Songs That Made Me is a live show in two parts, complete with interval. The four singers will be joined by a female rhythm section and will also perform with their own instruments. Join Katie, Abby, Angie and Martha in this candid look at their lives through music – it’s sure to be a breathtaking evening, a wonderful celebration of some of our finest women of song.
